Lens Lab Part 2
Part 2
1. Remove the cardboard sheet and slotted plate.
2. Set up your apparatus as shown, using Lens 1 and with the white side of the cardboard screen facing the lens.

2. Set up your apparatus as shown, using Lens 1 and with the white side of the cardboard screen facing the lens.
3. Make a chart in your lab book like the one below.
Procedure:
Leave the screen at the opposite end from the lens.
4. Place the light behind the lens.
5. Move the light slowly towards the lens, then away from it.
a. What do you see on the screen?
6. When the image is very sharp, measure the distance from the light to the lens, and from the lens to the screen.
a. What happens to the image when the screen is moved toward or away from the lens?
b. If you move the screen, which way do you have to move the light to make the image sharp again?
7. With Lens 1 near the end of the base, set the light 20cm from the lens. Move the screen until the image is sharp.
a. Record the image distance.
8. With Lens 1 near the end of the base, set the light 30cm from the lens. Move the screen until the image is sharp.
a. Record the image distance.
9. With Lens 1 near the end of the base, set the light 60cm from the lens. Move the screen until the image is sharp.
a. Record the image distance.
10. With Lens 1 near the end of the base, set the light 90cm from the lens. Move the screen until the image is sharp.
a. Record the image distance.
11. Replace Lens 1 with Lens 2, and repeat the four tests, but place the candle at 10cm, 20cm, 30cm, and 60cm.
a. Record the image distances.
Analysis:
1. Compare the distances measured for Lens 1 and Lens 2.
2. How are the measurements from Lens 1 and Lens 2 alike?
3. How are the measurements from Lens 1 and Lens 2 different?
